Asta returns with a new single “Shine”, a slice of up-tempo funk courtesy of a new writing and production collaboration with wunderkid Yeo. Plus news that a full EP and national tour are slated for the new year. “ For me ‘Shine’ is just about growing up! Awkwardly learning to trust my gut, savour the good, bouncing back from crap and ultimately just going my own way. So with ‘Shine’ I brought the soul and then Yeo turned up the funk!!”…Asta Bursting onto airwaves in 2012, Tasmanian native Asta won over hearts with acoustic debut single ‘My Heart is On Fire’. Its strong vocal lines and opportune phrasing impressed, leading to her becoming the triple j Unearthed High winner for that year and taking out the #50 position in the 2012 triple j Hottest 100. Following the win, Asta released second single ‘Escape’ and ‘I Need Answers’ – both of which propelled straight to triple j rotation and saw Asta play her first headline shows across the country. Over the next two years, school graduation, a move to Sydney, endless writing sessions and collaboration efforts gave Asta time to develop what is now a distinctive sunny alt-pop sound that is very much her own. A writing session with Andrew Klippel (Pnau, Earth Wind & Fire) and chance encounter with rapper Allday lead to single ‘Dynamite’ – the world’s first real insight into Asta 2.0. ‘Dynamite’lived up to its name both figuratively and literally, propelling Asta back onto radios everywhere. A successfulheadline tour, sold out tour with Allday, show with Ellie Goulding and multiple festival spots including Falls and Splendour ensued. Asta finished the year by performing Whitney Houston’s classic ‘I Wanna Dance With Somebody’ for triple j’s Like a Version and scored the #47 spot in the triple j Hottest 100 with Allday for ‘Dynamite’. Now 22, Asta feels as though she’s finally found her sound. Flipping that original brooding acoustic pop on its head, Asta hascarefully curated a brighter, bubblier natural progression. Nowhere does this fierce new audacity emerge more distinctively than via new single‘Shine’. The first from a long-awaited debut EP it’s a glistening display of confidence and the culmination of a spate of writing sessions with Melbourne based producer and artist YEO. Working closely with Asta on all production aspects for the EP, YEO has helped to fuel this new peak in creativity.
