From early beginnings singer/songwriter and producer, Hayden Calnin has carved out a path refusing to adhere to convention and genre. By the time the self-taught, multi-instrumentalist had graduated from film school, a major in sound design had set the scene for Hayden to take an interest in music production.
On his first two self-produced EPs, Hayden explored the realms of everything from folk through to downbeat, drawing comparisons to artists such as M83, Bon Iver, James Blake and Dawn Golden. He’s received significant attention across major international blogs and international radio, played major Australian festivals and toured with the likes of Matt Corby, Tom Odell and The Antlers.
Furthermore, Hayden has received continued international attention with songs being synced on popular TV shows such as Suits, The 100, Parenthood, MTV’s Teen Wolf, So You Think You Can Dance USA and most recently the official UK and Japanese trailers for Oscar nominated film ‘Room’.
With a two part album announced for release in 2016, Hayden has given fans a small taste of what’s to come, with singles ‘White Night’ and most recently ‘Cut Love’. His new sound is a spectacular melting of where he’s been and where he’s going as an artist, remaining faithful to that ‘late night’ vibe, while bringing forward his melodic side.
‘Cut Love Pt. 1′ is out March 4th 2016 followed by ‘Cut Love Pt. 2′ on May 13th 2016.
“’Cut Love’ shows just how talented this rising artist is. It’s a chilling blend of brooding falsetto and emotive lyrical poetry that weaves together this beautiful piece of 7-minute art that relies on feeling more than gimmicky bridges and a catchy chorus”– Earmilk
“If the title track is any indication, the album will showcase Calnin’s free-flowing creativity and knack for creating ambient textures to prop up his voice, which slithers in and out of frame.” – Consequence Of Sound
“His yearning vocals are very much in the Bon Iver mold amid the subtle meeting of folk and electronica….”Cut Love” had me so immersed in all its intricacies that it was over before I knew it, leaving me wanting more.” – Indie Shuffle
