Jack Ladder is a singer / songwriter / composer based in The Blue Mountains, west of Sydney.
Since 2005 he has released four albums: Not Worth Waiting For, Love is Gone, HURTSVILLE (the last two being shortlisted for the Australian Music Prize) and Playmates. Each album has seen a stylistic shift musically, but always there is his distinct baritone voice, finely honed songwriting craft and an ability to draw the listener into his narratives, holding them there to the very end.
“Jack Ladder’s slow-spoken baritone”, said The Australian, “adds drama to everything he says”. While The Music opined that “it all comes back to that voice: It can be a conspiratorial whisper, an ache in the dark, a desperate need” and US music site Stereogum dubbed him “a surrealist crooner”.
Backed again by his band The Dreamlanders (Laurence Pike, Donny Benet and Kirin J. Callinan), Playmates was his most acclaimed album to date, receiving glowing reviews and feature album status on radio stations across the country. The album was released early 2015 by the Fat Possum label in North America and Japan.
His sold out ‘Dreamland’ show at The Magic Mirrors Spigeltent in January was “a late night gem” and acknowledged musical highlight of the 2016 Sydney Festival, according to the Sydney Morning Herald.
Ladder performed on the Sydney Opera House Forecourt over four sold out shows supporting Florence & The Machine on their November 2015 Australian and New Zealand tour.
