In the wake of inking an AU/NZ record deal with Dew Process / Universal Music Australia, delivering the closing performance at TEDx Youth’s Sydney conference and opening for UK rising star Billie Eilish in Sydney & Melbourne this month, Melbourne-based beatmaker Alice Ivy serves up her brand-new single ‘Be Friends’.
Three-and-a-half minutes of sun-drenched synths and crunchy drums expertly adorned by Adelaide-based emcee and one half of Man Made Mountain, Cazeaux O.S.L.O. as well as Singaporean singer Tim De Cotta with whom Ivy forged a friendship with while touring there in ’16. The track premiered on the airwaves via triple j’s Goodnights.
“When I wrote ‘Be Friends’ I wanted to capture that endless rush of excitement you get from listening to the music of Motown. I’m stoked to have worked with two exceptional artists on this one. I’ve always had heaps of time for ‘Man Made Mountain’ so working with Cazeaux O.S.L.O was like ticking something off the bucket list. I met Tim Di Cotta whilst on tour in Singapore last year, as I was watching him perform I was thinking holy hell I need to work with this guy – he sounds like Justin Timberlake! The combination of the two have made for a really special combo and I’m super stoked to be putting this record out into the world”
In March 2017, Alice Ivy released the blissed-out, electronic single ‘Get Me A Drink’ featuring Sydney’s E^ST and Melbourne rapper Charlie Threads on shared vocal duties which The Age placed at #8 in their “Best Songs Of 2017 So Far”. The track was added to high rotation at triple j as well as earned her acclaim from across the country with the likes of Zan Rowe declaring in a recent interview with Stoney Roads “Her production is really exciting and every song she’s uploaded to Unearthed has been stronger than the last”.
The past 18-months have seen Alice Ivy perform more than 80 shows in 4 continents including lead supports for the likes of Oh Wonder (UK), Billie Eilish (UK) Urthboy’s national “Crushing Hard” tour, Remi and E^ST. She also completed two sold-out Australian headline tours, maiden dates in the USA and Singapore, Canadian Music Week PLUS a stack of summer festivals including Splendour In The Grass, St Kilda Festival, Listen Out, Strawberry Fields, Paradise Music Festival, Queenscliff Music Festival 2016, NYE On The Hill 2016, Pitch Music Festival 2017, Groovin’ The Moo 2017 and VIVID 2017.
In September, Alice Ivy embarks on Listen Out festival nationally as well as The Plot, Karova Carpark Fest with Illy and Spit Syndicate in October with plans to release her debut album before the year’s end.
