Bob Evans is the charming alter-ego and solo project of Australian recording artist Kevin Mitchell who also fronts alternative rock band Jebediah. In 2013, EMI released Bob Evans’ most recent album “Familiar Stranger” which showcases a progressive pop sound and an artist brimming with newfound inspiration.
The new incarnation of Bob Evans breaks away from the overarching acoustic and alt-country style of previous three albums “Goodnight, Bull Creek!”, “Suburban Songbook” and “Suburban Kid”. Recording “Familiar Stranger” brought Kev together with the acclaimed UK-based Producer Dean Reid (Marina And The Diamonds, Mystery Jets), drummer Joey Waronker (Back, Atoms for Peace) and Sydney-based bassist and Producer Tony Buchen to work at the renowned Sing Sing Studios in Melbourne. The resulting pop album is breezy, has more atmospherics, subtle harmonies and electronic playfulness then the previous acoustic focused works. Channelling many classic artists from John Lennon to Beck this album presents mature song-writing and Kev’s knack for captivating lyrics. In keeping with his existing tongue-in-cheek nature, hilarious videos were made for the two singles “Don’t Wanna Grow Up Anymore” and “Go” which included a food fight in a Milk Bar and a clumsy beach adventure guest starring Tim Rogers.
A lover of the road and a true troubadour, Kev chalked up an enormous number of kilometres around Australia following the critical acclaim for “Familiar Stranger” playing over 55 shows including A Day On The Green, Moomba Festival, ARTBAR at Art Gallery of WA, St Kilda Festival, The Great Australian Beer Festival Geelong and 2 full tours covering capital cities and numerous regional areas.
A talented singer/songwriter, Bob Evans has achieved awards for Best Male Artist in Rolling Stone Australia’s 2007 annual reader poll, was a finalist for 2007’s Australian Music Prize, and a strong contender for the lauded J Award in 2006. Bob Evans’ second studio release, ‘Suburban Songbook’, had Kev pick up a 2006 ARIA Award for Best Adult Contemporary Album, chalking up Gold accreditation in the process. More recently, “Goodnight, Bull Creek!”, his third studio album earned Mitchell dual 2009 ARIA Award nominations for Best Male Artist and Best Adult Contemporary Album while “Familiar Stranger” followed up with a 2013 ARIA Award nomination for Best Adult Contemporary Album.
